#19 How to be a successful contributor needs updating
Opened by ankursinha. Modified

At a glance, I see a few things that need updating:

  • in general, this is too task oriented. For example, it speaks about time-commitment. Yes, that's important, but our new welcome-to-fedora method is not task oriented at all. We're just happy for folks to hang out---they don't necessarily have to contribute in the traditional way.

  • similarly, i don't think it should say "get permission from work and family". it should say "manage work and family", and then note that one may need to get permission from work and so on.

  • first contact is also quite task oriented. It says "if any of these questions aren't answered, you're not ready yet!" That's just not right (and sounds scary to me, so would definitely be scary to newcomers). We don't want people to be "ready" in any way. It's enough for them to just join us to chat and hang around---to be part of the community that way, and then look into getting involved with tasks.
