#470 Add an Option in GNOME Software to Enable Fedora Third-Party Repos Easily
Closed by tpopela. Opened by linuxkernel94.

Description:

Currently, Fedora shows a prompt after installation to enable third-party repositories, but if the user dismisses it, there is no clear way to enable them later via GNOME Software. While individual third-party repos can be enabled manually by name, this process is confusing for users unfamiliar with which repos to activate.

A simple toggle or option in GNOME Software’s settings would make it easier to enable all third-party repositories at once without requiring terminal commands or navigating multiple menus.

Steps to reproduce:

Install Fedora and dismiss the third-party repo prompt.
Try to enable them later via GNOME Software.
Notice that they can only be enabled manually by repo name, which is not intuitive.

Proposed solution:

Add a toggle in GNOME Software settings to enable all third-party repositories at once.
Provide a brief explanation of what enabling them does.

Impact:
Improves usability and accessibility for users who want third-party software without using the terminal or manually selecting repositories.

Users can easily and often enable this in GNOME Software, as intended. It may be questionable to duplicate this option in another, less intuitive place.

In addition, all these repositories are literally categorized as Third-party Fedora repositories, separated visually.

Isn't that already available in GNOME Software -> Settings button -> Software Repositories?

It should be, yes.

While individual third-party repos can be enabled manually by name, this process is confusing for users unfamiliar with which repos to activate.

The software repositories window has a section for the 3rd party repos:

So there is a way to enable these repos.

The idea of making repo management more accessible to those who aren't familiar with all the details is a nice one. If I were to pursue it I'd probably redesign the software repositories window entirely (the third party repos aren't the only ones which suffer from the challenge of intelligibility). You could potentially have a simple view with high level options and then a way to dig down into the indvidual repos.

Agreed: @aday will consider this request when redesigning the software sources dialog. It needs to be redesigned anyway due to this previous agreement.
