It appears that the @xgl-maint user-pseudo-group is no longer in use (src.fedoraproject.org shows no activity in the past 365 days), and its bugzilla account is disabled, but it is still the maintainer of record and bugzilla assignee for a lot of X.org related packages.

This prevents several SOPs from working correctly. For example, no NEEDINFO requests can be made for disabled accounts, and so, any FTI / FTBFS issues will never be escalated to get packages orphaned / retired (which is probably the reason why nobody noticed the sad state of things earlier).

It also appears that security bugs, crash reports, and new version bugs from anitya that are filed against the affected packages are often ignored, probably also not helped by the fact that the packages' main admin is FUBAR (though there are co-maintainers of record, who appear to look at reported bugs occasionally).

This is a ticket for the Fedora's Policy for nonresponsive package maintainers.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention! The short version is we intend to sunset the usage of both the @xgl-maint pseudouser and the xgl-maint@redhat.com email address. The email address still has some RHEL-internal process magic around it so it's not going away entirely, but for Fedora purposes it has clearly outlived its utility.

We're in the process of scoping the work needed to retire the pseudouser so I don't have a fix-by date for you or anything, but we'll let you know as we make progress. At a minimum we need to scrub the outstanding bugs in bugzilla and unassign the pseudouser from any packages, so it's likely a few packages will end up orphaned unless volunteers are found.

That sounds like exactly what the non-responsive maintainer script does? It removes the user as owner from the package, resets the default bugzilla assignee, and once that is synced to RHBZ, the assignee for all bugs on RHBZ will also be reset. So if you want to have a scripted way to clean this up, the script that's used for non-responsive maintainers should actually do what you want. :) (After running the script, whoever is "really" responsible for a package can just click the "take" button and that should then also reassign RHBZs to the correct person with the next pagure -> RHBZ sync.)
