#3264 Incomplete Changes Report for Fedora Linux 41
Closed: Accepted by ngompa. Opened by amoloney.

Below is a report of the changes for F41 that, at this time, are not ON_QA or are not 100% complete.

System Wide Changes

Python 3.13
Owner: @ksurma
Tracker Bug: #2244836
Status: ON_QA
Note: Python 3.13 is the main Python of Fedora 41 now; the updates have landed. There are still 89 packages in Fedora 41 that have not been rebuilt with Python 3.13 yet.

IPU6 Camera Support
Owner: @jwrdegoede
Tracker Bug: #2300336
Status: MODIFIED
Notes: The change is feature complete, and the owner is working through some known bugs that have been filed with the expectation that all known bugs will have a fix in place and/or backported before beta freeze.

RPM 4.20
Owner: @ffesti
Tracker bug: #2276421
Status ASSIGNED

Self Contained Changes

Netavark Nftables Default
Owner: @mheon
Tracker bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2304176
Status: ON_QA
Note: Default firewall driver is now conditionally compiled based on Fedora version, with 41 and above receiving the new nftables default. Some issues have come in due to custom kernel configs on a GitLab runner not having nftables modules loaded by default , but otherwise the change is successful.

Tracker bug: #2258070
Status: MODIFIED
Notes: This change has landed in rawhide in build https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-888dbc6737 and should be complete. Just waiting on confirmation from maintainer, or other.

KDE Plasma Mobile Spin & Fedora Kinoite Spin
Owner: @siosm @tdawson @ngompa
Tracker Bug: #2300339
Status: ASSIGNED
Note: The owners have been contacted for a status update for this change in the tracker bug.

This change is ready for the KDE Plasma Mobile Spin.
The Kinoite Mobile Atomic variant is not fully enabled in Fedora infra yet. This is tracked in https://pagure.io/fedora-kde/SIG/issue/559.
This however does not block this change and will likely happen after the beta freeze. We will not provide Kinoite Mobile installation ISOs for F41.

Enable bootupd for Fedora Silverblue & Kinoite
Owner: @walters @siosm @tpopela @pwhalen
Tracker bug: #2150982
Status: ASSIGNED
Notes: The owners have been contacted for a status update for this change in the tracker bug.

This change is ready for F41 even though we are still investigating some related issues:

  • https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2304328

We can undo it before the release freeze if we can not fix those in time for the release.

OstreeNativeContainerStable
Owner: @jmarrero @walters @baude
Tracker bug: #2151321
Status: ASSIGNED
Notes: This change is now included in the bootc initiative and the owner has been contacted to confirm if the change has landed for F41 or if this needs to be deferred.

This change is not complete but now included in the bootc initiative. Not sure how we could reflect that.

Bumped to F42 :(

Confidential Virtualization Host with AMD SEV-SNP
Owner: @berrange
Tracker Bug:
Status: ASSIGNED

I think we should postpone this for F42. I looked at the package reviews, and they're at <50%. (I expect that some of the packages not submitted for review will be more complicated. So far a bunch of Rust libraries was packaged, and those are relatively simple.)

PyTorch 2.4
Owner: @trix
Tracker Bug: #2304171
Status: ASSIGNED
Notes: Unable to contact the change owner through bugzilla as account has been disabled to get a current status update on the change

The address has been updated in bugzilla, see e.g. #2304171.

The package has been updated, I changed the tracker bug to ON_QA.

ROCm 6.2
Owner: @trix @mystro256
Tracker bug: #2305771
Status: ASSIGNED
Notes: Unable to contact the change owner through bugzilla as account has been disabled to get a current status update on the change

This doesn't seem to be done. Some preparation for the updates has happened, but the builds are not done. I think we can allow this to go in after Beta, those are leaf packages.

  • dnf5 has clearly been done, we should just bump that to ON_QA, I guess.
  • There's a PR for Miracle, to Rawhide only ATM, but I guess the idea is to run a Rawhide compose before merging it for F41. I'll mention this in the bug.

Sorry I went on holiday at precisely the wrong time to give a status update!

I've just updated the feature "Scope" section with latest status. TL;DR:

We have kernel, QEMU, libvirt & EDK2 support included in Fedora 41 currently. This is sufficient to create SNP VMs if you know what you're doing.

We are missing SVSM support (which is all the Rust pieces) which is what would help us provide a vTPM. This has slipped and won't be viable until F42.

We are missing virt-install support for making installation easier for mere mortals. Although we missed the Feature deadline, it is likely we'll still get this into F41, as the code exists upstream.

Overall, my thought is that we update the feature page to match what currently exists in F41 for kernel, qemu, libvirt & EDK2, along with expected virt-install support. Then I'll create a new F42 feature page for the SVSM stuff that we missed in F41.

I forgot to include the summary of yesterday's meeting in this ticket. Here it is:

Confidential Virtualization Host with AMD SEV-SNP

Overall, my thought is that we update the feature page to match what currently exists in F41 for kernel, qemu, libvirt & EDK2, along with expected virt-install support. Then I'll create a new F42 feature page for the SVSM stuff that we missed in F41.

Yes please.

Looks like we have two to review this week:

Update on follow ups for changes:

  • ostree native container phase two, stable
    • Change has been withdrawn from F41 and change owners have been emailed to request they resubmit smaller scoped changes for upcoming Fedora Linux releases that this work will target as part of the boot-c initiative.
  • Systemd Security Hardening
    • Change owner has been contacted to request they edit this current change proposal to reflect the work done to date, and use a 'phased' approach to deliver this change overall, with the work in this change being the first phase. Deadline for the change to the proposal should be done before beta release (17th sept), but if this is missed, they have been advised that it needs to be done before final freeze (October 15th) or the change will need to be retargeted to F42 in its entirety.
  • Confidential Virtualization Host with AMD SEV-SNP
    • Change retargeted to F42
  • Reduce the amount of "dontaudit" rules pertaining to unlabeled_t
    • Change retargeted to F42

@sgallagh I didnt do anything with the changes you had an action against following up with owners for, and for DNF5, but I can do if this hasnt happened yet, just let me know.

This was discussed during today's FESCo meeting:

    • INFO: The change seems mostly done, but there's some integration work missing. We'll revisit after Beta. (@zbyszek:fedora.im, 17:29:30)

On IPU6 camera support - I note in the Change page "Test plan will be filled in as soon as all necessary bits have landed in rawhide", but that has not happened. I have a laptop with one of these cameras (XPS 13 9315). I tried installing all the packages mentioned in the Change and using various camera apps and Firefox, but nothing seems to see the camera at all, so it's hard to know where we're at with this Change. @jwrdegoede would it be possible to update that?

Everything in bugzilla is ON_QA and beta ships tomorrow.

I know we have a few followups post beta, perhaps we should file those seperately?

Do we have anything for tomorrow or can this be closed now?

As far as I know, this can be closed

Alright, closing.
