#3574 Change: DeprecatePython-dateutil
Closed: Accepted by sgallagh. Opened by alking.

Python-dateutil is an extension to the standard Python datetime features, widely used by a lot of other projects. However, upstream is unmaintained and possibly with unaddressed security issues. The plan is to try to continue packaging until feasible, but mark the package as deprecated in Fedora and try to convince other dependent project to switch over from it.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the Discourse discussion linked above. Additional discussion may happen on the Fedora Devel mailing list.

+1. It's probably a good idea to also mention that this will disallow new packages from using it (in case someone reads the Change Proposal but is unfamiliar with the deprecation policy)

/me fixed ticket assignee and @-mention in the ticket body.

I think we might need to to more stringent measures to wean of the dependent packages, esp. if in cases where the security issues might matter. But deprecating the package is a good first step in any case.
