This is a temporary alternative to #295.
The intention being to make one release where it's Retired, and entirely remove it in a next major release.

Note: the Jenkins that kept commenting here was an incorrect config: it was running on an ancient system without dependencies installed.
I have disabled that for now, awaiting the other CI system to get enabled.
