This is a preliminary ticket in order to inform you that we will request some swag for the annual event called Linux Day. Some of the Italian Fedorans are still trying to coordinate a presence at some of the events that will be held in various cities around the country.
The Linux Day, https://www.linuxday.it/2019/, is an annual event mainly organized by local LUGs that will be held in various places around the country. Last year edition was held in 77 cities. Some of these events are little ones limited to a bunch of passionate people and tinkerers, while other ones could be prominent occasions to meet developers and other kind of FLOSS contributors. The audience (and the number of attendees) you can meet at the various events varies based on the city: curious people, beginners, hobbyists, high school students, IT professionals, university students (where there is an university), makers, and so on.
Obviously the Linux Day is not Fedora centric. And as many LUGs have evolved along the years, sometimes the majority of the talks aren't related to Linux as a distribution but to the ecosystem around it (Arduino, Rasperry Pi, makers world, FLOSS world and communities, open source applications, etc.). In addition, sadly, italian Fedorans are often unwilling to host a talk or to run a booth (or looking at the veterans, they are no more active in representing Fedora in such events, or are no more in Italy :-)).
You can read the 2018 report here: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/linux-day-2018-italy/
As said before we are still coordinating on the it-users@f.o. mailing list. There is a little group of people that is willing to represent Fedora (hosting talks or booths) in the event organized in their city. In many cases such people is also involved in the event organization. Therefore we are still not sure about the numbers (of the events where we can represent Fedora, nor the number of attendees).
Like the last years we were thinking to make a unique request, then one of us will take care to send the material to the other people (if you agree).
We are tracking the events that will be covered on this wiki page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LD19_italy
We will provide more details in a subsequent comment to this ticket.
Thank for your attention.
I believe this is a great way to represent Fedora's mindshare amongst all the LUGs in Italy. I am giving my +1. I would also like to know if you are planning for release parties as the dates are post F31 Release and it will be looking forward to your thoughts about the same?
+1
Seems straightforward to me. I vote +1 for this request.
Can you update us with approximately how many cities we will be participating in so I can estimate swag needs in time to get orders placed, if needed.
First of all, thank you all for all those +1.
Yes, we have a deadline for tomorrow. We will wait for the weekend, then we will communicate the involved cities and the estimated number of attendees. Works for you?
Thanks again.
@alciregi this is fine :)
OK. We will cover 4 cities.
There will be a talk in Bari hosted by @corsaro, and another one in Ivrea hosted by @dariolesca. In Pisa and in Catania there will be a booth hosted by me and @lewis41 (Pisa) and @giupardeb (Catania).
These are the expected attendees: 100 in Bari, 100 in Pisa and 100 in Catania; 40/50 in Ivrea.

What is the process now? We should open a budget ticket in order to request swag?
Thanks.

Hello! Here you can find the report from Bari: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/linux-day-2019-bari-a-retrospective/
We are planning to write another collective report by the end of November, covering the Linux Day in the other cities.
We decided to write two reports because @corsaro was really excited by the event he was involved in: a great success. It is nice to give some emphasis to such event.
In addition the event in Catania has been cancelled due to a weather alert, and hopefully it will take place on November 23.
And here is the collective report: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/linux-day-2019-italy/ so we can close this ticket.
Thank you very much!
Also spreading such articles in various channels (telegram, forums, social), we hope to attract some new (and old) Italian contributor. 🤞
Thanks @alciregi ! Great work :)
