#10326 turn off fm-releng bot notifications in #fedora-releng
Closed: Fixed by humaton. Opened by mattdm.

  • Describe the issue

The #fedora-releng channel is overwhelmed by bot messages. They much more frequent than any human conversation, they interrupt those conversations, and they push human messages out of sight. propose we either:

  1. Disable these entirely, if no one actually finds significant value
  2. Move to a separate #fedora-releng-bot channel (and likewise on matrix).

  3. When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)

Soonish, because it'd be nice to have this clean for our official matrix launch

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (YYYY/MM/DD)

n/a

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?

Channel continues to be robot talking to itself.

Well...

Sep 24 10:12:45 i for one like seeing when stuff is building so i know like updates have pushed so i can do the respins
Sep 24 11:03:15 Southern_Gentlem: yeah, thats fair. I also guess I like the rawhide/branched ones so I know when it failed...
Sep 24 11:21:26 nirik: I like messages in this channel for any compose related stuff as well as some repos that I am interested in
Sep 24 12:06:20 mboddu: sure, you get those also via email tho right?
Sep 24 12:06:42 I'm not sure I care about pungi stuff upstream so much anymore...
Sep 24 12:06:47 Yeah, but its just easier

So, @mohanboddu @jbwillia would you be ok with a seperate channel for these?

i really dont understand the isssue, to me it happens only in one channel =
and so if people dont want to see it they can ignore the bot. otheriwise st=
ay out of the way of people doing the work=C2=A0

I don't like this. #releng is the first channel I read back in the morning and compose info and some repo activity on releng tools is really helpful. Having a separate channel for bots will just create obstacles.

This will be discussed in the next releng meeting tomorrow.

We discussed it on weekly meeting,

<mboddu> For now, we can start with this, and if people are not using the bot channel a lot and/or if people are complaining about the compose notifs in releng channel, we can revisit, wdayt?
<nirik> note that this will take a freeze break or waiting until after freeze

Metadata Update from @humaton:
- Issue tagged with: unfrozen

We are keeping most of the messages in releng channel.
