#10514 Unretire rpms/luit
Closed: Get back later by humaton. Opened by thomas-dickey.

  • Describe the issue
luit was retired apparently due to its reliance upon an obsolete version. Upgrading to version 2 of luit would make Fedora comparable to OpenSUSE, for instance, and would require little developer effort.

  • When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)
    N/A

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (YYYY/MM/DD)
    N/A

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?
People who use luit will either compile it themselves (developers) or use another distribution (non-developers).

The upstream luit sources include a workable ".spec" file (renaming it to "bluit" to avoid conflict).
See https://github.com/ThomasDickey/luit-snapshots/blob/master/package/luit.spec

On the package page, it says "Orphaned for: Lack of time -- This is still the (discontinued) freedesktop.org version and should be updated to the fork, but only xterm uses it and it recently dropped support.", but upstream xterm continues to support luit. Perhaps some other meaning (less obvious) was intended by that comment.

The package is retired for more than 8 Weeks as per https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Package_Retirement_Process/#claiming
We require a re-review to unretire this package.
