#11725 Unretire python-mpd2
Closed: Fixed by humaton. Opened by ferdnyc.

Name of the package?

python-mpd2

FAS username of the new maintainer?

ferdnyc

Branches that you need it to be unretired for?

rawhide, f40, f39(?)

Package re-review BZ URL?

Not required, I THINK? Package retired 23 days ago by @ankursinha.

Any extra information?

python-mpd2 was retired due to failing unit tests, which made the package FTBFS in any release running Python 3.12+ (see bug 2226249).

However, the unit tests rely on esoteric features of Python asyncio that the actual package itself does not rely on. Patching out those unit tests makes the package build/install-able again, with the only negative being an increase in the amount of (now-)untested code it contains.

Also:

  • python-mpd2 is a dependency of mpdris2 (which I maintain)
  • retiring it has made mpdris2 also fail to install
  • mpdris2 makes no use of any asyncio features in python-mpd2 (so the failing unit tests have no impact on the stability of the code mpdris2 depends on)

...In light of all that, I offered (see bug 2220341) to take over python-mpd2 from Ankur, who transferred maintainership to me.

I assume the window for getting both packages back into F39 before release is long since closed, but I would still like to restore them post-release, if possible. And, of course, return them both to F40 and rawhide.
