Describe the issue
Currently, all affected maintainers are BCCed on the orphaned packages report that are sent to devel-announce. This is how it's been done since before I took over this process. With the current amount of orphaned packages, 180 addresses are BCCed, and that's after I reduced the scope of who gets the emails (see https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/UGIP57GDELUCLPIGCEMVPVDIHWLPSKFE/). Since the previous report I sent two weeks ago, my email provider has instituted a 150 recipient limit on emails, so I am no longer able to send these reports from my domain. I have received feedback from package maintainers that receiving these messages directly is useful, and that is the status quo, so I would prefer to keep BCCing maintainers. Would it be possible to get credentials to the fedoraproject.org SMTP server so I can send the reports from gotmax23@fedoraproject.org or something like packages-report@fedoraproject.org via the fedoraproject.org mailserver instead of from my own domain? It looks like an SMTP auth relay server does exist, but I'm not sure if it would be possible to get access as an external user.
When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)
Ideally, by the next scheduled orphaned packages announcement the week of 2025/08/24.
(edited to add "When do you need this")
FTR, I used the corporate redhat.com SMTP server for this when I was doing it, but that was only possible because I have access as a Red Hat associate.
(This is not advice for @gotmax23 but rather a comment for the sake of transparency.)

Yes, we can do this.
Should we make you a gotmax23 account? Or something more role based? ( orphaned-packages ?)
I would prefer gotmax23@ that's more general, if possible, as I'd like to also use this to directly notify packagers of significant mass changes the Go SIG has planned (such as the retirements as part of https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GolangPackagesVendoredByDefault or future rebuilds that affect branched releases like the one in https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/golang@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/VPDDKLHOYNEOS36EMP6YCHHV6Y5ERDHT/).
Note that this is just for the smtp auth... you can send with whatever from address you prefer.
How about just making it 'packaging-reports' ? I can get you a password via matrix dm? or whatever you prefer...
That works. Thank you.
Any chance this could be looked at this week? It would be great to get this in before freeze, and another report is due to be sent this week.
Yeah, it's on my todo list. Hopefully today.
ok. Just set things up. Sent you info in a matrix dm.
Let us know if that doesn't work...
