Name of the package? brightnessctl
FAS username of the new maintainer? jelford
Any extra information?
History This package was included in F29, but has been orphaned since the previous maintainer stepped away in 2017 (announcement).
Motivation for including in Fedora With the inclusion of sway in F30+, there's a clearer need for a stand-alone way of managing brightness settings outside of Gnome/KDE desktop environments (... and brightnessctl is the one that Sway points to, and is packaged for lots of other distros).
Updates required As part of unretiring this package, I'd look to bring it into line with the latest upstream, along with enabling systemd integration in the build (the latest upstream has sd-bus integration, but the most recently packaged version did not activate that in the build).
The package needs unretirement. It was retired for more than 8 weeks and hence it needs a new package review.
Thanks for the quick response.
I'll open up a new review request on Bugzilla in the next day or so.
I should mention that I've also just sent a self-introduction to the devel@ list here.
Review request is here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1778512
@churchyard should this issue remain open, or should it be closed off in favour of the review request on bugzilla?
I suggest to close this and open another issue that is called "Unretire brightnessctl" using this template: https://pagure.io/releng/new_issue?template=package_unretirement&title=Unretire%20%3Cpkgname%3E once the package is reviewed and you are sponsored.
Thanks, will do.
