#9382 Unretire rpms/scamper
Closed: Get back later by mohanboddu. Opened by mjl.

  • Describe the issue

scamper was retired in 2019 because the previous maintainer did not update the scamper package after 2014, and scamper stopped building when linux > 5.2 required to get SIOCGSTAMP. the current public release has fixed this, and made numerous other improvements.

  • When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)

At your earliest convenience. There is a replacement scamper.spec project file attached to the following ticket. I am the upstream maintainer, but I have not developed an RPM file before. If the RPM is acceptable, it seems relatively straightforward to maintain.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1736644

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (YYYY/MM/DD)

NA, the package is already retired.

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?

scamper will have no supported RPM on Redhat / Centos / Fedora.

Hi @mjl, you need to be fedora packager to be able to claim retired packages. Here is how you can get sponsored: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_get_sponsored_into_the_packager_group

To claim retired package you need new review request. More info here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Orphaned_package_that_need_new_maintainers#Claiming_Ownership_of_a_Retired_Package

Please reopen ticket once you become a packager.

Thanks.
